Kenya Tourism 2022: Tourist arrivals in the months January to November increased by over 70% compared to the same period in 2021.
Since 2020, the global corona pandemic has kept tourism in suspense in most countries around the world. In Kenya, too, the number of foreign tourists fell dramatically in 2020 and 2021. But since 2022, the signs in Kenya have been pointing to growth again, as the figures recently published by the Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) show. Because the number of tourists increased by a total of 75 percent in the period from January to November 2022 compared to the same period last year.
According to this, a total of 1.32 million travelers arrived in Kenya in the period mentioned, compared to only around 870,000 arrivals in the period from January to November 2021. About 40 percent of the 1.32 million arrivals were foreign tourists who vacationed in Kenya. Another almost 27 percent of arrivals were to visit relatives and friends. And business trips or MICE arrivals (Meetings Incentives Conventions Exhibitions) also accounted for around 27 percent of all arrivals. Even if the number of tourist arrivals is not yet at the level of 2019, the figures certainly give hope for a return of the tourism sector to pre-Covid levels soon.
From January to November 2019, Kenya recorded a total of 1.97 million arrivals, according to the Kenya Tourism Board.
The coastal region around Mombasa with its numerous beaches, including Diani Beach and Nyali Beach, as well as the numerous national parks in Kenya, such as the Nairobi National Park right outside Nairobi, is particularly popular with foreign tourists.
