The Nairobi Expressway will be completed in March 2022, around three months earlier than expected The 27-kilometer expressway will connect south and west of Nairobi.

Work on the Nairobi Expressway, currently by far the largest construction project in the capital Nairobi, is progressing according to plan. According to the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), the expressway will be opened to traffic as early as next month. The Nairobi Expressway is a 27-kilometer expressway that runs from the south of the capital to the west of Nairobi. Due to the massive increase in traffic in Nairobi, traffic jams and driving at walking speed are the order of the day in Nairobi, especially in the city center and the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD). The Nairobi Expressway will drastically reduce travel times from the west to the south or, of course, in the opposite direction, from up to two hours to around 25 minutes.

The Nairobi Expressway is also an extremely important and sensible infrastructure project for President Uhuru Kenyatta. Kenyatta had already undertaken an extensive inspection of the expressway last December and found out about the current construction progress of the Nairobi Expressway.

The Nairobi Expressway is being built and financed by the China Road and Bridge Cooperation (CRBC), a Chinese state-owned company based in Beijing. CRBC is the largest state construction company on the entire African continent and has already implemented several construction projects in Kenya, including the railway project with the financing and construction of the Mombasa-Nairobi SGR railway line, completed in May 2017.
