Diani Beach walk on the beach on the Indian Ocean: It’s so beautiful on Diani Beach, the tourist center of the southern coast of Kenya, around 30 kilometers south of Mombasa.
Isn’t it beautiful here at Diani Beach? The approximately 25 km long sandy beach is rightly one of the most popular beaches in all of Kenya. Just 30 kilometers from the coastal metropolis of Mombasa, hundreds of thousands of tourists flock to this stretch of Kenyan coast every year. Tropical climate with sometimes high humidity (especially in summer) means that it is warm here at Diani Beach all year round. Incidentally, the warmest months are January and February, i.e. during winter in northern Europe, with temperatures often well below 10 degrees. But also the rest of the year you can enjoy sun, beach and a few cold drinks at Diani Beach. Accordingly, many hotels are located along the coast.
If you don’t care about the sea view and instead focus on the price of the accommodation, you are guaranteed to find a suitable hotel in Ukunda (coastal town with almost 65,000 inhabitants) just 3 kilometers away. In general, it can be said that tourism on Diani Beach is slowly picking up speed again after COVID-19. But the number of foreign tourists on Kenya’s south coast is nowhere near the level of 2019 or 2018, i.e. before Covid.
Kilometers of dream beach & few beach visitors
You won’t find crowds on the beach and crowds on the fine white sandy beach. Rather, it is a very pleasant and relaxing time when you decide to go for a walk on the beach. Every now and then, of course, someone will offer you something for sale on the beach, mostly jewelry, souvenirs or handicrafts. Before Covid, the sellers had made a good living from tourism on the beach for many years, but since 2020 tourism in the coastal region and in the entire country has plummeted, the hawkers can hardly make a living from it.
