Mombasa Terminus – train station just outside the port city of Mombasa
Mombasa Terminus – From this station, trains run on the Nairobi-Mombasa SGR railway line.
Mombasa Terminus train station is located in Miritini, a suburb of Kenya’s coastal city of Mombasa. Anyone traveling by train from Mombasa on the Indian Ocean to Nairobi, which is around 500 kilometers long, starts here at the Mombasa Terminus. The other way around, of course, you arrive here at the train station if you travel by train from Kenya’s capital Nairobi to Mombasa. The railway line also runs through three Kenyan national parks, the Tsavo East National Park, Tsavo West National Park and the Nairobi National Park on the outskirts of the capital.
The station was only completed a few years ago and the Nairobi to Mombasa line opened in 2017 after a new build. The waiting hall is correspondingly modern. The platforms are also extremely well-kept, and of course the same applies to the train. The journey time with the express train, the Madaraka Express, takes just under 6 hours to the Mombasa Terminus. A particularly striking architectural feature of the Mombasa Terminus, however, is the high tower with its distinctive circles, which represent a wave in the Indian Ocean.
In addition to the express train, there is also an inter-county train on this route between Mombasa and Nairobi, which, however, stops at significantly more stations and accordingly has a longer journey time.
