The planned gas pipeline is around 600 kilometers long and will run from the coastal city of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania to Mombasa. The construction costs are estimated at around 1.1 billion US dollars. In a further construction phase it is planned that this gas pipeline will later be extended to the capital Nairobi. Future gas imports from Tanzania are intended for power generation, for private households and, of course, for Kenyan industry. In this context, Kenya&rsquo;s President William Ruto also emphasized that the construction of the pipeline and future gas imports from Tanzania will help to reduce energy and electricity costs for industry and households.<\/p>\n<p>The basis for gas imports from Tanzania was already laid in mid-2021 when Tanzania&rsquo;s President Suluhu and Kenya&rsquo;s former President Uhuru Kenyatta signed a preliminary memorandum of understanding on gas imports from Tanzania.<\/p>\n<p>The feasibility of building the pipeline is currently being examined in the first step.
